Are you are looking for Great Ocean Road accommodation for your family which is a little different, a little quirky but has all the comforts (plus more) of home? Then, I can highly recommend a stay at Cobden Crest Cottage.
For the best prices we recommend booking through booking.com.
Cobden Crest Cottage is located in Cobden. An easy 25 minute drive from the 12 Apostles or 2 hours from Melbourne. I was looking at family accommodation for a long weekend along the Great Ocean Road, around the Port Campbell or Princetown area and lots of the holiday homes I came across were either too expensive or just a boring old hotel room. Hotel rooms have never really excited us to be honest! I wasn’t necessarily looking for cheap accommodation great ocean road, but everything seems so expensive thesedays.
Cobden Crest Cottage has been operating since 2004 and the guest book inside has amazing comments from all these years ago. The owners, Robyn and Carl pride themselves on providing guests the opportunity to visit the Great Ocean Road and surrounding areas at a very reasonable price with fantastic facilities.
The facilities they provide are well above any other holiday house type accommodation we have stayed at.
The cottage has two bedrooms. The main bedroom has a comfortable queen sized bed and the second bedroom has a set of bunks.
The kitchen is full size and equipped with everything you could ever need including oven, stove top, fridge, microwave and all sorts of pots and pans. There is also a BBQ outside with utensils. There is a dining area but we either ate at the kitchen bench seats or next to the fireplace.

Large fully stocked kitchen
There is a large bathroom and laundry. All linen and towels are provided at Cobden Crest Cottage with many spares should they be required. There is also soap, body wash and shampoo in the bathroom and a hairdryer.
The property features a private entrance, away from the main house (Robyn and Carl live on site), a balcony, large windows for taking in the countryside views, there is a wood heater (which was roaring when we arrived late on Friday night), two TV’s plenty of DVD’s to choose from and many, many books.

Some of the quirky books at Cobden Crest Cottage
There is a large games room with a pool table, chess, darts and plenty of other board games and books.

Pool table fun!
The games room is also a mini museum of the history of the area including information on the shipwrecks and sinkholes of the area. It’s fascinating reading following the picture gallery along the walls.

In the bunk room were a number of teddy bears of all different shapes and sizes. Ned and Olive had a ball playing with these.

Teddy Collection!
Outside the cottage, you will find loads of other activities including a table tennis table, golf nets, badminton and cricket.
One of the best things about Cobden Crest Cottage was the breakfast provisions. How often do you stay at a holiday home and arrive to a loaf of home made fresh baked bread, milk, juice and a dozen farm fresh eggs in the fridge plus a basket of cereals to choose from? There was also butter, peanut butter and jam in the fridge. This is above and beyond what is normally provided.

The photo’s don’t really do it justice. The cottage was spotlessly clean even though it is old. We can usually tell straight away how clean a place is, as Ross suffers from Asthma and it is set off by dust in old places.

I think, given the distance from the beaches that this suited us for a long weekend in Winter. Perhaps, if it was summer and we were wanting to swim we would feel too far from the coast. But, apart from this, it was a perfect location for a long weekend.
Cobden is close to the township of Timboon which is part of the 12 Apostles Food Trail. We enjoyed lunch at the Timboon Distillery, an ice cream at Timboon Ice Cream, we visited Dairylisous Fudge and Timboon Cheese. There is a berry farm also but it was the wrong time of year. The kids also gorged themselves on the olives at Aldo’s Olives in Cobden.
We had a wonderful stay at Cobden Crest Cottages. Thanks to Robyn and Carl for setting up a wonderful, comfortable holiday accommodation.
We booked through booking.com and that’s where you’ll find the best price for Cobden Crest Cottage.
We would have no hesitation in staying here again if we find ourselves down this end of the Great Ocean Road. I really do think this is one of the most unique and best Great Ocean Road family accommodation places at a very reasonable price. Sometimes it is really nice not to worry about camping!!
We do tent to favour accommodation which is a little different. Check out Sassafras Springs in Tasmania. This was one of our favourite places in Tassie.
